Scheduled Platelet Mission Procedures

Meet the courier at the designated meeting place at your home airport at the time that you coordinate with the dispatcher the night prior. You and the delivery courier load the platelet box(es) and possibly a blood box in your aircraft. Once the lab prepares the platelets, you have 24 hours to get them to the delivery airport. Now, that's not ideal, but 24 hours is the platelet expiration time.

Many pilots meet the courier as early as 0600. How late you can meet the courier? Call your Blood Lab dispatcher and ask him or her.

Fly to the delivery airport, where you'll deliver the boxes to the pickup courier.

Then, fly to your home base.
